The BBCs mission is to entertain, inform and educate the
British audience. The aim of the BBC is to ‘put the audience at heart of
everything we do’. The BBC aim to lighten up people’s day by involving them and
entertaining them early in the morning too wake them up. Due to Greg James’
radio set being early in the morning, they provide impartial news to help
people understand and engage with the world around them, during this they have
guests featured, games played, and music played.
The BBC breakfast show uses many different streaming
platforms. They cast the show on the radio, television, online and through
music streaming apps. These different platforms cater to many different people of
all ages as it is easy to access. The radio can be listened to anywhere anytime.
Greg James also involves his audience into his show. He asks viewers to tweet in
or email responses to his questions so that he can communicate with them. He reads
out their opinions on what has happened earlier on the show.
Audience research shows that young people are more likely to
listen to Greg James due to him being down to earth and relatable. James is
also loved by many due to his charm and charisma. The music which is played on
the breakfast show is mainly top 40 and more modern pop music. There is a wide
range of artists globally who have their songs on the show. However, the ratio
of music is normally 50% British and the rest from different parts of the
world. Infact, 92% of 9-14-year olds claim to personally own at
least one internet connected device. This means that children as young as 9 can
listen to the radio meaning Greg James caters to an extremely large range of
audience. Surprisingly, 65% of people actually listen to the breakfast show on a
digital device rather than in the car which seemed to be the most popular way
to listen to the radio.
The radio uses celebrity guests to entertain the audience. A
celebrity guest would naturally get the fans of that celebrity listening to the
show.
